Chief Surgical Services Officer, ORMC

Sherry Buxton is the Chief Surgical Services Officer for ORMC and the Adult Hospital Group. This includes ORMC Surgery, PACU, Sterile Processing, ACC Surgery, Endoscopy, Intraoperative Neuro Monitoring, Pain Management, and Anesthesia Support Depts. She is responsible for direct operations in each of these areas and has been in this role since 2003. Ms. Buxton has been part of the ORMC family since 1979 where she started her career as a new RN on the general surgical unit. Ms. Buxton has been in a leadership role since 1980, functioning in various capacities as an ANM and a Nursing Operations Manage for multiple units. Ms. Buxton graduated with a BSN from East Tennessee State University and received her Master’s in Business Administration from University of Phoenix in 2000. She is a member of the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives and a member of Sigma Theta Epsilon.

Amanda Maldonado has more than ten years of hospital marketing experience and is currently the Senior Marketing Manager at Orlando Health in Orlando, FL. Her role includes marketing strategy development and growth, brand management and marketing campaign management. Amanda sits on the Robotic Surgery Steering Committee at Orlando Health, where she is an active part of the advancement and evolution of the program. She received her graduate degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL.

Veronica Schimp

Internationally recognized for her expertise in minimally invasive care, Veronica Schimp, MD, is the Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health. Dr. Schimp is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Gynecologic Oncology. Her research interests include complementary therapy in gynecologic cancer care, racial disparities in cancer outcomes, and quality outcomes in surgery and cancer care.

Dr. Schimp earned her Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Biology and Chemistry from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She then earned a Doctorate in Osteopathy from Michigan State University. Dr. Schimp went on to complete a two-year residency in General Surgery at St. John/Oakland General Hospital in Madison Heights, Michigan, a four-year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hutzel Hospital/Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and a three-year post-doctoral fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Prior to joining UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health, Dr. Schimp served as a Clinical Educator at the University of Texas MD Anderson Houston. She then served as Director of Inpatient Surgery, Cancer Center Chairwoman, and Co-Director of Minimally Invasive Care at Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit, Michigan.

As the author of chapters in two medical books and numerous published articles and case studies on cancer of the female reproductive organs, Dr. Schimp has presented at more than 50 seminars and conferences. She has been recognized as one of Detroit’s top doctors by HOUR Detroit Magazine and has received the Patient’s Choice Award the past four years, as well as America’s Top Oncologists Award the past three years. She has also been named as one of Orlando’s premier doctors by Best Doctors in America and Consumer’s Guide to Top Doctors.

Dr. Schimp is a member of several organizations including the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Society of Surgical Laparoscopists. She is an epicenter surgeon for Intuitive, da Vinci Robotics surgery and actively participates in training residents, on-site and visiting faculty about building robotics programs and how to perform a variety of robotics procedures.
